In Honor of Alvin Richard Hunter, Jr.

Former Washington resident Alvin Hunter Jr, 88, died July 29, 2021 at his home in Gig Harbor, WA. A funeral service with full military honors was held at Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery, Thursday, August 26th @ 2:00pm.

Alvin Hunter was born Dec. 6, 1932, in Hilliard, Ohio to Alvin and Mona Hunter. Alvin could accomplish anything he set his mind to. He loved baseball, and as a child, took his ball glove everywhere. His Father worked as a foreman at the Marble Cliff Quarry. As a young boy, Alvin carried his Father’s dinner to the quarry and ate with him every day.

Alvin Hunter was a star football player for his high school football team, the Gahanna Lincoln Lions. He was named All-County End, by the Columbus Dispatch. He later graduated from Otterbein College with a BS in Math & Physics and continued post-graduate studies at The Ohio State University. He remained an avid Ohio State Buckeyes football fan all his life.

Alvin Hunter served in the United State Air Force during the Korean War as a Senior Aircraft Mechanic. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

In 1962, Alvin relocated to California with his wife, Suzanne, and his two children: Jeff and Vicki. In California, he worked many years for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company. He was a member of the Society for Experimental Mechanics, & The American Society for Testing Materials. Some of his personal interests were: Football, Baseball, Golf, Boating, & Gardening.

He and his wife, Suzanne built their dream home in Gig Harbor, Washington and enjoyed many wonderful years together with their family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Suzanne Bobb Hunter, son, Jeffrey Allan Hunter, daughter, Vicki Hunter Richards, son-in-Law, Jeff Richards and Grandson, Nick Richards.
